The mission of the Division of External Affairs is to integrate its major functions - development, communications, alumni relations, government relations, and career services - with the academic mission of the University of Georgia and to serve its faculty, students, alumni, and citizens of Georgia.

The goal of the division is to help position the university as the acknowledged flagship institution of higher education in the state and as one of the top-tier public research universities in the country.

The Division of External Affairs supports the University of Georgia through several functions that generate both financial and non-financial support.

Arch at night Development Private financial support provides the margin of excellence that makes universities great.Through private gifts, UGA promotes and supports scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships, international study for students and faculty, research facilities, and the campus master plan. Although UGA is a public institution, direct public support accounts for less than 40 percent of the annual operating budget. Therefore, through the Development Office, private gifts and pledges from individuals, foundations and corporations help to ensure the university's excellence in the academy.

Arch at night Career Center The University of Georgia Career Center is a comprehensive career planning and employment center located on the second floor of Clark Howell Hall. The Career Center provides a complete range of services to students, alumni, and employers in the areas of career development, graduate and professional school preparation, experiential education, employer relations, and campus recruiting.

Arch at night Office of Public Affairs The University of Georgia is of great interest to the people of the state of Georgia, the nation and the world. The Office of Public Affairs communicates information about UGA's students, faculty, research, and public service activities using Web sites, news releases, Columns, Georgia Magazine, video, photography, broadcasting, and tours for visitors.

Arch at night Special Events The primary responsibilities of the Office of Special Events are to design, develop and manage special events that showcase the University of Georgia's excellence and promote advocacy and support for UGA.

Arch at night Financial Services The Office of Financial Services performs the budget, personnel, computing and accounting functions for the External Affairs Division. In addition, the Office of Financial Services provides staff support for both the Arch Foundation and the University of Georgia Foundation. Support includes both financial and technical support to enhance the fund-raising, alumni relations and public relations efforts of the External Affairs division and the over all University. Arch at night Government Relations The Office of Government Relations is UGA's link to state and federal governments. The Office of Government Relations serves as chief liaison between the University and federal, state and local government offices and legislative bodies. The Office is responsible for development and implementation of strategies and programs to attain public funding goals, and to foster positive and effective ongoing relationships with elected officials and executive branch leaders.
